For example, I wanted to give a Halloween treat to some friends. I would rather make something for a gift than buy it so the first thing that came to mind was Caramel Apples. I also feel like they are slightly more healthy than candy. (Calorie-wise a caramel apple is about the same as two fun size candy bars, but you get the dietary fiber and some vitamins from the apple!)
I've actually never made Caramel Apples before but lucky for me the directions are on the back of the bag a caramel bits (yes...purchase these instead of the wrapped ones...same weight and price...huge time-saver). Four easy steps:
1. Wash apple
2. Insert stick
3. Melt caramel bits
4. Dip apple in caramel
Now here comes the creative part. Drizzle with some melted chocolate candy melts, let dry (refrigerate a few hours), place in a baggie, and tie with a ribbon. The perfect special treat for that someone.
